Soul In Motion Players Celebrate 33 Years In Mt. Ranier

On Saturday, February 25th at 8 pm and Sunday, February 26th at 4 pm Joe’s Movement Emporium resident artist company Soul In Motion Players Inc. celebrate their 33rd anniversary with their annual Black History Month performance in Mount Rainier, MD. This year’s show, ‘It’s Our Time’ features the premiere of ‘Temple Memories’ choreographed by Rosangela Silvestre. Soul In Motion Inc.’s family-friendly show boasts high energy choreography and beloved heart pounding rhythms that salute the richness of the African Diaspora. Tickets can be purchased online at www.joesmovement.org. Ticket amounts are $25 for adults, $15 for students & seniors, and $10 for children 16 & under.

‘It’s Our Time’ will bring Soul In Motion Inc.’s unique mix of theater, African drumming and dance back to the Mount Rainier stage where they’ve performed for historically packed houses. The high-energy troupe creates an experience enjoyable for everyone. No one can remain immune to the incredible heart pounding beats of the Soul In Motion drums.
Soul In Motion’s Michael Friend has been a longtime advocate and partner of Joe’s Movement Emporium. On March 19, 2016 Joe’s honored Michael as a Mighty Joe with the Creative Visionary Award. Previously in 2014 he was the recipient of the Empower Magazine Player Award and in 2011, as director of Soul In Motion, Michael won the prestigious Montgomery County Executive’s Community Award for Excellence in the Arts and Humanities.
About Soul In Motion Players Inc. (SIMPINC)
Soul in Motion Inc. was founded and continues to grow under the direction of Artistic Director Michael Friend joined by Associate Director Pam Lassiter Rhone. SIMPINC dancers are Ronnie Bradley, Adjetey Klufio, Charla Lewis, Terryn Nelson, Jennifer Payen, Pam Rhone, Monique Walker, Megan Atkinson, Pam Lassiter, Nya Seaward, Trenise McCorkle, Mustapha Braimah, and Devon Wallace. SIMPINC drummers are saac Adjetey, Papa Aziz, Michael Friend, Michelle Hutton, Kimberly ‘Jahada’ Hinton, Malari Moore, Abdou Muhammad, and Mamadi Victory.

SIMPINC was founded in 1984 by Michael Friend and his sister Khandi who began to perform together as the Soul In Motion Players. Their debut performance was at Michael’s alma mater, Howard University during Black History Month. Original members included fellow Fine Arts Department graduates Cheryl Butler Poole, Greg Poole, Gisele Jackson, and Wanda Whiteside. Over the years SIMPINC has had the privilege of privilege of performing for acclaimed writings including the Last Poets, Maya Angelou, & James Baldwin.
