Students will be introduced to basics of sitar, a traditional musical instrument from South Asia. Learn how to hold the sitar and make the first stroke on the strings of the instrument. Prince George’s Shakespeare in the Parks will be producing TWELFTH NIGHT in early July 2016, set in modern times, highlighted by an original musical score. We are looking to cast as many local actors as possible. All positions are paid.

Please prepare one Shakespeare monologue. You may be asked to workshop it with the director. Casting all ethnicities and some male roles will be cast as female. Rehearsals begin in early June.

Dance companies are invited to audition traditional work in any culture-specific dance style. Any traditional work not exceeding 15 minutes in length, in any culture-specific dance style, is eligible. Work must be auditioned in finished form with costumes. Six dance groups will be selected to perform in concert. Selected groups will receive an honorarium of $500, and a professionally-produced DVD of their performance. Open to performers of traditional, culture-specific dance styles, aged 16 years and older. Deadline for applications is Thursday, January 9, at 5 p.m.

Family Musical Theater Night at Harmony Hall
The Teen Performance Ensemble performs the family musical comedy “Super Granny” by A’Leighsha Butler, directed by Nia Barge, with original music by Darius Smith. Two children go on a visit to Granny and get caught up in a Super-hero quest! Next on the program, the Prince George’s Children’s Theatre performs “La Bella Cinderella” by Claudia Haas, directed by Mandy Dalton, with original music by W.G. “Pete” Stokes. Cinderella is a neat freak who can't stop cleaning up, the handsome Prince yearns to be loved like an ordinary guy, and the step-mother just wants to eat biscotti! Children of all ages will love these entertaining one-act plays, performed by talented high-school students from Prince George’s County who love to act, sing and dance. All ages. $5.

Two original musical plays for families will be presented on a single exciting evening. The best teen-age actors, selected from high schools in Prince George’s County and trained by the finest professional directors in the metropolitan area, will entertain and educate kids and adults. Teen Performance Ensemble presents Treetop Idol, by Alexandra Petri, music by William G. “Pete” Stokes, a glimpse at what happens in the forest when all the humans go home and the animals conduct their own music competition. Prince George’s Children’s Theatre presents Coming Back to Home, by Mary Watters, music by Mylie Durham III and Alan Prunier. This play depicts actual historical events from the War of 1812, as experienced by time-travelling teen agers who find out what life was like on the Riversdale estate during the Battle of Bladensburg. Each play runs approximately 50 minutes, with an intermission between presentations. All ages welcome. Tickets $5.
