Glossary of Planning and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Terms

Open Space (Land Use, Not Zoning)
Areas of land not covered by structures, driveways, or parking lots. Open space may include homeowners association common areas, parks, lakes, streams and ponds, etc.
Operating System
Computer software designed to allow communication between the computer and the user. The operating system controls the flow of data, the application of other programs, the organization and management of files, and the display of information.
Opportunity Housing
Dwellings constructed by a not-for-profit housing organization pursuant to Subtitle 13, Division 8, of the Prince George's County Code.
Overshoot
That portion of an arc digitized past its intersection with another arc.
