AUDIT PROCESS

This course develops an understanding and appreciation of the philosophy of the auditing process and the role of internal and external auditing with M-NCPPC. The concepts of risk and control, evidence and documentation are considered. The operational approach of the internal auditor is contrasted with the attestation focus of the external auditor. Critical thinking and communication skills are developed through a variety of means including case analyses, presentations, seminar-type discussions, preparation of a group and individual case papers, research of authoritative literature and use information technology tools.

BACK SAFETY

This safety training course helps employees understand how back injuries occur and how to prevent them using good ergonomic practices. The course highlights proper lifting, load carrying and unloading techniques, and tips to help encourage thinking about back safety at work, thereby helping employees maintain a healthy back. This back safety training course addresses one of the most common workplace injuries and what can be done to help prevent back injuries and back pain. BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT

Working with children and adolescents with serious behavior problems is extremely challenging and can often be a very frustrating experience. Many of us use what we refer to as “behavior management,” but the meaning of this and the quality of its actual application can vary widely. In addition, many agencies have developed behavior management systems, some of which have been in place for years, but how do we know if they are working as well as they could? The purpose of this workshop is to identify the very best of what is known about behavioral interventions, how to apply these interventions in the most practical, effective, and humane ways, as well as how to produce meaningful behavioral change for even the most challenging clients in a variety of mental health and out of home settings.

This course, offered by the M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County, Public Affairs and Marketing Division, focuses on skills required to effectively post information and update web pages within our content management system. Staff assigned to web pages within pgparks.com and/or one of the companion sites will learn how the workflow operates and the tools and techniques to update web content and maintain updated web pages. Topics include how to edit copy to match our styling guide, adding, updating, and deleting content, linking to internal and external sources, image selection and requests, calendar events and more. CPO- CERTIFIED POOL SPA OPERATOR CERTIFICATION

The two day CPO® certification course is a 14-16 hour training program that encompasses classroom lecture, interaction from students, and work through several calculations and take a written open book final exam to test your knowledge. Upon passing the final exam you receive a certificate, wallet card, and patch from the National Swimming Pool Foundation® (NSPF®)and be registered as a Certified Pool - Spa Operator® CPO® for a period of five years. This course provides you the knowledge and confidence to respond in an emergency situation with skills that can save a life. You will learn first aid treatment for those who become suddenly ill or injured. CRANES AND RIGGING

This safety training course teaches employees the safe way to handle crane rigging and all the hazards associated with using cranes while at work. Cranes are used at many workplaces, across all major industries, to lift and move materials. Crane operators are generally trained and often certified in safe crane operations and inspection. The Developmental Assets are the building blocks that all young people need to be healthy, caring and productive individuals. The Search Institute has been conducting research since 1989, which has illuminated the positive relationships, opportunities, competencies, values, and self-perceptions that young people need to be successful. The Institute's framework of Developmental Assets grows out of that research, which has involved more than 1 million adolescents in grades 6 through 12 in communities across the country. This class will examine the research while exploring practical strategies of application of this approach framework.

The purpose of the CPSI course and examination is for those certified to be able to: Identify hazards on public playground equipment and the playground Rank the hazards according to injury potential Apply the knowledge to remove the hazards and establish a system of inspections Upon completion of the CPSI course a Certified Playground Safety Inspector should be capable of establishing a sound risk reduction program, establish a system of repair, retrofit and removal of hazardous equipment and establish a routine inspection system for their agency or playground owner-client.

This course provides an introduction to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) for Maintenance Supervisors. The goal of the course is to help participants gain an understanding of OSHA operations and procedures and learn how they can work with OSHA to prevent or reduce injuries and illnesses in their workplaces. Included in the course is information on the background of OSHA, standards, the inspection process, implementing a safety and health program, and assistance available from the Risk Management Department.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT FUNDAMENTALS

Review employee and supervisory responsibilities for meeting work program expectations. Learn how to communicate about performance expectations, and how performance ratings/outcomes are calculated. This course is mandatory for new Merit System employees and new supervisors responsible for evaluating Merit System employees. If you supervise any number of full or part-time employees, you will gain a strong understanding of the principles of managing people and influencing co-workers and supervisors. The School format is interactive and you should be prepared to participate by bringing your work experience and issues to the classroom. The program is designed for staff working in organizations such as auditoriums, cemeteries, parks and recreation, public works, stadiums, zoos, libraries, etc.

Landscaping and Turf Management includes standards to prepare students for creating beautiful environments for Department of Parks and Recreation facilities. This course includes site analysis and preparation, landscape drawing, plant selection, and installation. Maintenance of healthy attractive landscapes and turf areas will be emphasized.

WATER SAFETY INSTRUCTOR TRAINING
