South Tech Rec Hosts Day of Back To School Fun
School has finally begun in Prince George’s County and for some, the excitement of new teachers, school supplies and learning is one of the best parts of the Fall! At the new Southern Regional Technology and Recreational Complex last Saturday, August 24, staff and community guests hosted an awesome, jam-packed day full of fun for kids, teens and their families all about going back to school. From noon to 4 p.m., the center held many different events, games, demonstrations and community vendors. Guests could participate in a rap battle, a preview of the “Who’s Rhyme Is It Anyways?” class at the center as well as enjoy some free Rita’s ice. Community vendors such as Alpha Phi Alpha, Prince George’s County Commission for Children, Youth & Families and AMR Jewelry were on hand in the gym informing about their programs and services. Once kids and their families visited enough booths, they could get a stamp on a bingo board to win prizes. There also was a scavenger hunt (the teams huddled before the start in the picture above) all throughout the building and demonstrations to learn about the many classes held at South Tech Rec. Later on in the night was Teen Night, where those in Middle School and High School could play games and participate in activities more geared towards their interests. And, at the Back to School Jam, South Tech Rec’s new climbing wall was finally opened! There also was free food, a DJ and many giveaways. Overall it was an awesome day to get all students excited for back to school!
