Teen Cotillion Week 4- Bio and Writing Techniques
Over the last few weeks the Deb and Beaus have been challenged to get to know new people, make new friends, and forge new bonds. To accomplish this, the teens participated in team building with Park Ranger Mills; Introduction to Ballroom Dancing with Greg Gordon; and a night of fitness with Ms. Ro and Mr. Jovan. Just last week, the Debs and Beaus had the opportunity to express their voice to a panel of Youth Advocates whom came together to answer questions the teens wanted answered.

In Week 4, the Debs and Beaus worked with Anika Jackson to write their bios. She discussed with them about how to write “their story”. Anika gave the Debs and Beaus some examples of well written bios, written by past Cotillion participants. The teens then took time to actually write their own story. These are the bios that will eventually be displayed in the Cotillion Souvenir Booklets on May 1st, at the concluding event.

The Debs and Beaus got a lot of work done tonight with Anika. They learned a lot! Here are some of their comments about working on bios:

• “I learned about the different ways to write a biography.” – Justin Marshall

• “I learned how to effectively writ a biography in the third person.” – Seth Adams

• “I liked how the experts interacted with us, they were hands on.” – Maryam Muhammad
• “I learned the content that should be included in a biography. (Important facts, special highlights, unique qualities and future plans.)” – Gaibrielle Bressler

• “When writing a biography tell about yourself And express who you are.” – Eryis Abraham
